Pumpkin Beer To Try This Fall

Five Pumpkin Beers To Try This Fall

Pumpkin beer is something I look forward to every year. Wednesday night Jamie and I got out our creepiest craft supplies, turned on Halloween Party Radio on Pandora and reviewed five pumpkin beers we found at our local grocery store. Here are the results. Of the pumpkin beer tasting, not the crafts…

Please drink responsibly.

If You Are The Most Basic of Pumpkin Lovers, Try: O’Fallon Pumpkin Beer

O'Fallon Pumpkin Beer

5.6% | $1.99

Like pumpkin pie in a bottle…we add 120 pounds of real pumpkin to the three-barley mash and then season the finished beer with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Source: O’Fallon Brewery

Jamie: A little vinegar and some pumpkin spice. I’d have it twice. 6.8/10
Carly: Smooth with a pumpkin spice finish. I will buy this again. 9/10

If You Put Hot Sauce On Your Hot Sauce, Try: New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin Beer

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin Beer

6.4% | $2.99

Enough with the run-of-the-mill pumpkin beers. I’m not interested in an ale that takes cues from a frozen coffee drink, and neither are you. That’s why I made Atomic Pumpkin. Does it really feature Habanero peppers? Yep! What about Saigon Cinnamon? Ding! Source: New Belgium

Jamie: Delightful cinnamon kick to the throat that I would like to have again. 9.8/10
Carly: A lot of cinnamon with a kick of heat in the back of your throat. Lighter beer. Nice. 8/10 if you can stand the heat.

If You Maybe Kinda Sorta Like Pumpkin, Try: Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Wheat

Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Beer

5.7% | $1.99

Harvest Pumpkin Wheat, as it’s called now, is crafted with pumpkin and spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice for a taste you’ll want to fall right into. Source: Blue Moon

Jamie: It tastes like drinking regular wheat beer out of a pumpkin. So not like pumpkin at all. 4/10
Carly: Barely-there pumpkin flavor. I like that it’s a wheat beer though. *shrug* 5/10

If You Like Your Beer Dark Like Your Soul, Try: Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash

Crown Valley Pumpkin Stout Pumpkin Beer

10.6% | $4.99

Our Imperial Pumpkin Smash is deliciously roasted with dark chocolate and toffee notes with a hint of smoke and a little spice from the hops that give it a pine note. The pumpkin adds body and character for a great beer. Source: Crown Valley

Jamie: It’s the afterbirth of a freshly baked pumpkin pie and a black coffee. 9.2/10
Carly: This smells like an expensive vanilla candle and tastes like the sweetest dark beer I’ve ever had. Pretty serious. 7/10

If You Like Brown Ale? Try: Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale Pumpkin Beer

7.0% | $1.99

A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with. Source: Dogfish Head

Jamie: Instead of a punkin ale, it’s more like a skunkin ale. 3.8/10
Carly: I can definitely tell it’s a darker beer, and not really the kind I like. I don’t taste much pumpkin at first, it comes later though. 5/10
