Sushi Scarf Free Crochet Pattern

Scroll below for a sushi scarf free crochet pattern. The scarf works up pretty quickly because of the double crochet. It only uses double crochet, chain and a double crochet chainless foundation, which I absolutely love. I only just found out about it recently. If you hate starting a project with chains, you’re in luck with this method. I’ve included a link to a quick video I found explaining it here.

This pattern can be made exactly as written, or it can used as a guide. As you make your scarf, roll it up into a sushi roll to test how your roll will look. You may need or want to increase or decrease the number of rows of each color. If you prefer a longer scarf, I recommend adding more rows to the white section. Experiment with different colors for the middle of your sushi roll to mimic your fav sushi.

Size 4 Worsted Weight Yarn*
-orange, yellow, white & black
5.0 mm Crochet Hook

*On yarn: Definitely use whatever you like best. My favorite is Caron Simply Soft. Especially for something that’s going to be worn. It’s reasonably priced and I find it easier to work with than more rough yarns. The white part of my sample was made using their white.  Here are the Simply Soft colors I think would be great for this project:

Start with orange yarn.
Row 1: Double crochet a chainless foundation* 15 across, CH 2, turn. (15 ST)
Row 2: DC in first stitch and in each stitch across, CH 2, turn. (15 ST)
Rows 3-9: Repeat Row 2. (Seven rows total)
Change to yellow yarn.
Rows 10-11: Repeat Row 2. (2 rows total)
Change to orange yarn.
Rows 12-17: Repeat Row 2. (6 rows total)
Change to yellow yarn.
Rows 18-20: Repeat Row 2. (3 rows total)
Change to orange yarn.
Rows 21-27: Repeat Row 2. (7 rows total)
Change to yellow yarn.
Rows 28-30: Repeat Row 2. (3 rows total)
Change to orange yarn.
Rows 31-38: Repeat Row 2. (8 rows total)
Change to yellow yarn.
Rows 39-42: Repeat Row 2. (4 rows total)
Change to white yarn.
Rows 43-119: Repeat Row 2. (77 rows total)
Change to black yarn.
Rows 120-145: Repeat Row 2. (26 rows total)

*Use this YouTube tutorial to learn a chainless foundation stitch. If you prefer, CH 17, then turn and DC in third chain from end. DC in next 13 CH across. (15 ST)
