C2C Pride Wall Hanging Free Crochet Pattern | 6 inch C2C squares

Categories :

Pride may be a little different this year but we sure as hell are still going to celebrate at home. This free C2C Pride wall hanging pattern will give you some extra Pride decor for your home. I made mine rainbow, because that’s the Pride flag I identify with most, but I intended for the banner to be customizable for other Pride flags also. The plain square can be included or left off, and extras can be added if needed. The squares could also be incorporated into a quilt with other 6-inch squares.

If you’ve never used C2C stitch or need a refresher, here is a link to a good tutorial. Corner to corner crochet works from one corner to the other. I alternated working my squares from the bottom right and bottom left, because my C2C work tends to have a slant. I hoped that would even out once the squares were stitched together. I feel like it worked okay, but both samples are still not perfect rectangles.

Since this was going to be a wall hanging, I carried the yarn behind using this technique from Amber at Divine Debris. (Scroll down the post a little for her videos.) If you plan to use these in a quilt or something that needs to be seen on the back, I would recommend using bobbins instead of carrying yarn behind. It looks something like this.

A note about the plain square: this may just be me, but I had trouble with the gauge on this one on both of my samples. If you look closely at the sample with the red P it’s is really obvious. I can only assume when I’m doing color work my tension is much tighter. I worked on loosening up that tension to be more consistent on my second sample. I worked up the plain square last, and I compared it to the other squares as I worked to make sure it stayed as close to the same size as I could make it.

SUPPLIES
3.75mm (F) hook
Yarn needle (for sewing together and weaving in ends)
4 medium worsted weight yarn, I used acrylic

YARN USED
-Pink Sample: Red Heart Super Saver in Petal Pink, Pumpkin (orange), Bright Yellow, Spring Green, Pool (blue) and Amethyst.
-Red Sample: Red Heart Super Saver in Hot Red, Pumpkin, Bright Yellow, and Amethyst. Big Twist Value in Varsity Green. I’m not 100% sure on the blue color but I believe it’s Red Heart Super Saver in Blue.

COMPLETED PROJECT SIZE
Approximately 36 inches long by 6 inches across. Each individual square is 6 inches by 6 inches.

GAUGE
3 inch by 3 inch square = 5 x 5 c2c square (5 rows with 5 c2c squares each)

NOTES ON CREATION AND ASSEMBLY
When making the squares, I weaved in all ends but left a long tail for sewing at the top of every square except the top square. If you wanted to attach to a dowel rod for hanging, a long tail could be left on that top square also. Blocking the squares before sewing together is at your discretion. I blocked the red sample but not the pink sample. I sewed squares together using a mattress stitch, which is currently my favorite way of sewing together pieces. For the sample with the border, I spaced single crochets out along the edge all the way around, putting approximately two sc per square and using a 4.0 mm hook instead of the 3.75. Add an extra sc to turn around the corner. I mostly did it because it was very crooked. If I make another one of these, I think I will try a sc border around each of the squares in the square’s color to make a better edge for sewing together. Instead of a banner, the squares could be hung side by side pennant-style on twine or yarn.

All C2C graphs were designed on stitchfiddle.com. Feel free to download the images to print for personal use but please don’t share the grid squares elsewhere.
