Mini Demiromantic Pride Flag Free Crochet Pattern
This demiromantic pride flag pattern is 13 of 15 flags celebrating the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. I started with rainbow flags: the original 1978 version, followed by the six stripe rainbow , then the 2017 inclusive rainbow flag and the Pride Progress flag. Then we moved into a few gender identity flags: the Transgender pride flag, the Genderqueer pride flag, the Non-Binary pride flag and the Genderfluid pride flag. Now we are moving into sexual & romantic orientation flags, starting with the bisexual pride flag first, then the pansexual pride flag, the polysexual pride flag, the demisexual pride flag and today, the demiromantic pride flag.
Sexual orientation, according to the Human Rights Campaign, is an inherent or immutable enduring emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to other people. For many people, this definition works; their sexual, romantic and emotional orientations are all in line with each other. For others, sexual orientation and romantic orientation are different from one another. I have included a few romantic orientation pride flags in this list because that aspect of the LGBTQ+ spectrum was something I didn’t know anything about until very recently, so I think it’s important to include. I am no expert on this subject, I am doing research and learning as I go, so if I have made any mistakes in this or any other explanation, please let me know. Also any info here is a just the very tip of the iceberg; I encourage you to keep reading and learning.
Demiromantic is a romantic orientation where someone feels romantic attraction only to people with whom they have an emotional bond. This doesn’t mean a demiromantic person is romantically attracted to everyone they have a bond with, just that the bond needs to be there prior to romantic feelings. Some consider demiromantic to fall under the grey-romantic umbrella. This is a very brief description of what demiromantic means, and as with other identities, everyone is different, so be sure not to assume how a person interprets their sexual identity.
I couldn’t find any information on the history behind this particular demiromantic pride flag. There are a few others, the ones I found feature the triangle on the left but different stripes for the main part, one close to the colors of the aromantic flag and one closer to the colors of the asexual flag. If I had to guess, based on what I’ve learned from this research so far, the colors likely represent similarly to the colors on the aromantic flag. On the aromantic flag, green represents the aromantic spectrum, white represents non-romantic forms of love, grey and black represent the sexuality spectrum. If you have other info about this let me know, I’d love to learn more.

SUPPLIES
3.75mm (F) hook
Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
4 medium worsted weight yarn, a small amount in the following colors: White, gray, black and green. (I used mostly Red Heart Super Saver Solids)
COMPLETED PROJECT SIZE/GAUGE: Flag size is approximately 3.25 x 5 inches. My gauge: 2 x 2 inch square = 10 rows of 9 stitches.
This project uses tapestry crochet techniques. Because of the design, there’s no need to carry any colors, I dropped each color during color changes. There is a color change in the first row, which I was able to accomplish with the foundation crochet, doing a color change by pulling the next color through on the stitch before the same as I would do a traditional color change. If you have any questions about this feel free to reach out.
If following written directions is better for you than following a chart, here are all the color changes listed per row. The number of sc stitches of each color is listed in parenthesis. Each row will be 24 sc across. For my sample I did a chain 1 at the end of the row before turning and I did not count that as a stitch.
Row 1 – gray (23), black (1)
Row 2 – black (2), gray (22)
Row 3 – gray (21), black (3)
Row 4 – black (4), gray (20)
Row 5 – gray (19), black (5)
Row 6 – black (6), gray (18)
Row 7 – green (17), black (7)
Row 8 – black (8), green (16)
Row 9 – green (17), black (7)
Row 10 – black (6), white (18)
Row 11 – white (19), black (5)
Row 12 – black (4), white (20)
Row 13 – white (21), black (3)
Row 14 – black (2), white (22)
Row 15 – white (23), black (1)
